ভাষা আন্দোলন এ দেশের সমগ্র জাতির মুক্তি আন্দোলনের সূতিকাগার। এটিকে একটি ‘ক্ষুদ্র গণ্ডির’সাংস্কৃতিক ঘটনা হিসেবে কখনো কখনো বিবেচনা করা হলেও মূলত পাকিস্তানি রাষ্ট্রনীতির মাধ্যমে বাঙালি জাতিকে শোষণ ও দাবিয়ে রাখার প্রচেষ্টার জোরালো প্রতিবাদ করার মাধ্যম হিসেবে ভাষাকে বেছে নেয়া হয়। তবে এটি অবশ্যই মাথায় রাখতে হবে যে, ভাষা আন্দোলনকে সুস্পষ্টভাবে বোঝার জন্য এই সারসংক্ষেপ যথেষ্ট নয়। এটি শুধু একটি সাধারণ ধারণা দিতে পারে মাত্র।  

Migration. A highly discussed topic of the 21st century. Election campaigns, foreign policy, world summits, you name it, everything has migration or more appropriately “immigration” linked and included as a main topic of discussion. As visible by President Donald Trump’s advent to presidency, we can see how big of a deal immigration can be turned into to successfully attract interest and use it as a leverage to gain attention.

Following his footsteps, many European countries, Austria for example have also called for and implemented stronger immigration laws which include cutting benefits for immigrants, stricter screening and selection processes to name a few. But the question is why? Immigration is not a new concept nor has it been unfamiliar to people around the world. The world we live in today and the people we are today would have been very different had there not been migration.

​The evolution of races, nationalities have all been possible due to migration which started around 2 million years ago with the out of Africa migration of Homo Erectus1. Migration has made it possible for countries like the United States of America to be what they are today as is pointed out by many in reply to the present anti-immigration mentality in that country. Then why the negativity? Why the fear and dislike? Is there really a definite answer to these questions?

অর্থনীতি নিয়ে কেউ চিন্তাভাবনা অথবা পড়াশোনা করে থাকলে তার কাছে ইকোনোমিক বাবল খুবই  পরিচিত একটি ধারণা। প্রথম প্রশ্ন তাহলে ইকোনোমিক বাবল জিনিসটি আসলে কি? কোন কিছুর মূল্য যদি তার অন্তর্নিহিত মূল্য থেকে অনেক বেশি বেড়ে যায়, তখন তাকে ইকোনোমিক বাবল বলে। এটি মূলত হয় কোন কিছুর মূল্য যদি বাজার অনেক বেশি ভুল অনুমান করে। এটি বলার সাথে সাথে আপনাদের মাথায় হয়ত হাউসিং বাবলের (২০০৮) গল্পটি ঘুরছে। কিন্তু সেটি কিন্তু ইতিহাসের প্রথম ইকোনোমিক বাবল না। তারও প্রায় ৪০০ বছর আগে নেদারল্যান্ডে “টিউলিপ ক্রাইসিস” নামক একটি ইকোনোমিক বাবলের গল্প শোনা যায়, যেখানে টিউলিপের দাম তার অন্তর্নিহিত মূল্য থেকে অনেক বেশি বেড়ে গিয়েছিলো (প্রায় ১১০০ গুন)। আসুন সেই গল্পটি আজ জেনে নেই।
