The gig economy has gained importance in providing employment opportunities to tens of millions of people worldwide. However, employment laws often lack the provisions to protect workers in the gig economy, especially in countries with weak labor laws, thus resulting in low pay and poor working conditions. It is high time to take a stand against the predicament of the platform workers.
Therefore, Economics Study Center (ESC) has decided to become a Fairwork Supporter to contribute to a fairer future of work in the digital platform economy. The Fairwork initiative assesses working conditions on digital platforms based on five principles of fair work: fair compensation, fair working conditions, fair contracts, fair management, and fair representation.
ESC endorses these values and pledges to demonstrate its commitment to improved labor rights.
With this commitment, we also hope to encourage other organizations to join us and Fairwork in our efforts to create a more equitable future for work in the digital platform economy.
