The 14th South Asian Economic Students’ Meet (SAESM) was held at Hotel Saikat ,Chittagong, Bangladesh from 18th-21st January,2018. An event organized by SANEM and assisted by Economics Study Center, Economics Career Alliance and Economics Cultural Club, brought together 110 top economics undergraduates and faculties from seven countries in South Asia with a mandate of a more integrated South Asia. It was an event full of fun and thrill. The meet included Paper presentations, Economics Quiz and the latest addition, Economics debate.Team Bangladesh consisted of 10 participants with Dr.Sayma Hoque Bidisha and Mahtab Uddin as team coordinators.The team having mostly students from the department of Economics, University Of Dhaka was a tough competition to the rest of South Asia. 10 students from team Bangladesh alongside other participants presented research papers on their respective sub-themes, each concerning a particular SDG, to a tough panel of judges and had a record breaking result of winning the best research paper in six out of ten papers .The winners were:
Sub theme 3 - Avinno Faruk Sub theme 5 - Tamanna Tabassum ( joint winner) Sub theme 7 - Wasik Sajid Khan (joint winner ) Sub theme 8 - Semab Rahman Sub theme 9 - Farhana Kabir Sub theme 10 - Mohammad Raied Arman (joint winner) The others,despite any notable award had a commendable performance: Sub-theme 1-Tanjim-Ul-Islam Sub-theme 2-Ayesha Ahmed Sub-theme 4-Farhan Mashuk Sub-theme 6- Afia Fahmida Daisy The Economics Quiz was another enthralling experience, while the buzzer buzzed on, the team dominated their way through the entire session, winning it fashionably.Congratulations to Semab Rahman, Avinno faruk, Tamanna tabassum and Farhan Mashuk! The debate competition followed the British Parliamentary system having mixed teams of 2 participants each. Though the session ended with a loss in the team’s basket, Tanjim-Ul-Islam and MD. Mushfiqur Rahman Tamim made it to the finals with their respective joint teams. The three day event ended on the 20th with a prize giving ceremony in the presence of Ambassador Prof. Bishwambher Pyakuryal,Nepal’s ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives and Dr,Shamsul Alam,Member,GED,Planning Commission of Bangladesh.It was followed by a cultural event where participants from various countries portrayed their cultures through music,drama and dance to the rest of South Asia.
