Economics Study Center (ESC) was proud to be the student partner of the "SANEM-World Bank Lecture by Professor Anthony Venables'' on the 18th of July, 2017. The seminar titled "Urbanization in the Developing World: Challenges and Opportunities" was held at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium, Faculty of Social Science, University of Dhaka. Professor Venables teaches Economics at the University of Oxford and is a member of the International Growth Centre's Steering Group. Dr. AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Dean, Faculty of Social Science and Dr. Nazma Begum, Chairperson, Department of Economics, University of Dhaka were present as special guests at the program. Chairman of Power and Participation Research Centre Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, Distinguished Fellow of Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Professor Mustafizur Rahman and Chairman of SANEM Professor Dr. Bazlul Haque Khondker were among the discussants at the event conducted by Professor Dr. Selim Raihan, Executive Director, SANEM. The discussion centered around how cities should be made attractive for investment by promoting sustainability and inclusivity. Respected teachers from various departments of University of Dhaka and inquisitive students from diverse institutions also actively participated in the lively discusssion. The seminar was attended by large number of faculty members and students from various departments of University of Dhaka as well as from other reputed universities. World bank lecture that was supported by the ESC it was organize by the student community so they arrange many teachers for this. I got all the details about this lecture from this blog because I was not there to attend this on that time.
