BES is a platform for economics students around the country to meet and share ideas about economics and political economy. BES acts as a forum for students, providing the opportunity for the application of theoretical knowledge on economics. The summit also aims to promote dialogue between academicians and policymakers. With the recent surge in infections, the fourth edition of BES will be held virtually between 24th February 2022 - 3rd March 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic has temporarily stagnated the global economy, but it also presents an opportunity for economists, policymakers, and society as a whole to reflect and construct renewed development paradigms. The fourth chapter of BES aims to focus on the need for a more holistic approach to solving the socio-economic problems of an ever-evolving world. Therefore, the theme for this year's summit is "Economics of Change: Developing in a Dynamic World." The events will be designed and organized to engage people in thinking about the central theme and host a number of academicians, policy-makers, and young economists. The event will include several segments such as panel discussions, public lectures, research paper presentation, and two competitions -one international Essay Competition and one national presentation competition, Speakonomics. Planetary health is based on the idea that human well-being is inextricably linked to the well-being of our planet earth. Global environmental disruptions caused by anthropogenic economic activities can cause severe implications for human health. The route to a sustainable environment has become increasingly complicated as a result of rapid industrialization, undisciplined usage, and high dependence on natural resources. Hence, the theme of this year’s essay competition is: “Restoring Planetary Health for More Resilient Economies.” The topic of the essay competition will help undergraduate economics enthusiasts to brainstorm the challenges and find solutions to conserving planetary health for a better future. Here are some open-ended (but not limited to) questions to get us thinking. What transformational changes are required in order to find the trajectory towards a sustained and thriving economy? Is it enough to invest in clean technology to improve the quality of life? How can the public healthcare system be enhanced in line with planetary health beyond individual healthcare? What are the challenges waiting ahead of us as we cherish for an Earth with lesser calamities? Topic: “Restoring Planetary Health for More Resilient Economies.” Submission deadline: 12th February, 2022. 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬
Economics Study Center is proud to announce the fourth edition of Speakonomics, which provides students a platform to critically analyze the most burning socio-economic issues of our country and use their knowledge of Economics to come up with policy solutions. The participants team up to portray the solutions in the form of a presentation. This time, the format for Speakonomics urges participants to focus on designing specific solutions in a manner that is implementable and sustainable rather than recommending broad policies. ESC hopes that the competition will help students develop their ability to distill solutions by critically analyzing complex issues, as well as help enhance their presentation skills.
